How to negotiate Net 60 as an influencer

Net 60 shows up in the MSA like weather. Treat it as a negotiable commercial — same as usage — with scripts that offer prepaid, split deposits, or a priced float. Creators who only say “that doesn’t work for me” without an alternative lose to the template.

This page is not legal, tax, financial, or other professional advice. For a live deal, talk to a lawyer and a tax or finance specialist in your jurisdiction — BlueRateCard is not either.

Scripts are negotiation aids, not legal advice. Have a lawyer review MSAs and PO conflicts; ask a tax specialist if discounted early-pay terms affect how you invoice.

Six pushback scripts

Send these in email so they enter the procurement trail. Adjust dollars to your quote. Tone stays calm; the structure does the work.

1. Dual price

“Happy to proceed. Prepaid / platform hold fee is $2,400. Net 60 fee is $2,750 to cover float. Pick one and I’ll update the SOW.”

2. Split the risk

“I can’t do 100% Net 60. I can do 50% on signature this week and 50% Net 15 from delivery invoice — or 100% platform payment hold before the shoot.”

3. ERP empathy, talent reality

“I know Net 60 is your vendor default. Shoot days aren’t software seats — I clear calendar and kit up front. Platform payment hold or deposit is required on first deals.”

4. PO amendment ask

“Please revise PO terms to: 50% due on PO acceptance, 50% due within 15 days of delivery. I’ll hold the date once the PO matches.”

5. Early-pay discount frame

“If finance needs Net 60 on paper, offer them a 3% discount for payment within 10 days of invoice — my Net 60 list price stays $X. Early pay is the win; silence is not.”

6. Walk-away line

“If Net 60 with $0 upfront is firm, I’ll pass on this flight and stay available for a prepaid test SKU later. Thanks for the clarity.”

Percent uplifts are working ranges — set your own and keep them consistent on the rate card.

Procurement responds to tables. A speech about fairness does not change an Oracle field. When they say “we can’t change terms,” they often mean “not without a different SKU code.” Give them the dual price so someone can approve the prepaid path without rewriting the entire MSA.

Traps inside “we’ll be fast anyway”

  • Verbal “we always pay in two weeks” while the PO says Net 60 — the PO wins in a dispute.
  • Agency Net 60 plus client Net 60 = you at the end of two floats.
  • Accepting Net 60 “just this once” on a series — once becomes the series default.
  • Starting production during term negotiations — leverage leaves the room with your hard drive.
  • Trading usage discounts for worse payment terms — you lose twice.

Negotiating Net 60 is the same skill as negotiating usage: name the alternative, price the concession, and be willing to leave. A platform payment hold ends most arguments. When a brand needs your audience badly enough, finance discovers a way to fund a hold. When they do not, you learned before Saturday’s shoot — which is the only win that matters.

Net 60 negotiation questions

+Why do brands push Net 60 on influencer deals?

Their ERP and procurement defaults were built for software and media agencies. Talent with a shoot next Tuesday is not the same vendor class — but the template still says Net 60 until you renegotiate the field.

+What is a fair counter if they will not do Net 30?

50% on signature / 50% Net 15 after delivery, or 100% platform payment hold, or prepaid price vs Net-60 price on the same quote (+12–18% for Net 60). “Net 45 with deposit” beats silent acceptance of Net 60.

+Should I raise my rate to absorb Net 60 float?

Yes if you accept it at all. Example: $2,500 prepaid → ~$2,850–$2,950 Net 60. Net 60 is about 8–9 weeks of float (≈8.6 weeks), not six. If they refuse the uplift and refuse a platform payment hold, walk. Unpriced Net 60 is a donation of that calendar.

+Can I accept Net 60 only above a certain deal size?

You can — but larger deals hurt more when they slip to day +90. Better rule: Net 60 never without a deposit or platform payment hold, regardless of size. Big number, same float problem.

+What if their PO already says Net 60?

A PO is not sacred. Reply with a revised commercial summary: payment terms are part of your offer. If legal will not amend, escalate to the marketer’s budget owner or decline. Doing the work “and sorting terms later” is how Net 60 wins.
