Instagram grid takeover rates
Figures and workflows here are illustrations, not financial, tax, or accounting advice. Talk to a tax or finance specialist in your jurisdiction before you invoice, set payment terms, or treat a number as a rate you should charge.
Day-count takeover ladder
Day one carries setup: concepts, product arrival, grid planning. Extra days cost less per day but still lock your calendar against other brands and personal posts. The ladder is a share of your Reel fee so the takeover stays tied to your real inventory price — not a flat “$500 weekend” copied from a forum.
Always write the post cap. A 3-day takeover with uncapped Reels is how scope creep eats the margin. Default caps below; raise the multiplier if they need two Reels per day or a 10-slide education carousel every morning.
| Window | Vs Reel = 1.0 | On $800 Reel | Default post cap / day |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-day takeover | 1.8–2.5× | $1,440–$2,000 | 1 Reel + 1 feed + 3 Stories |
| 2-day takeover | 3.0–4.0× | $2,400–$3,200 | Same cap × 2 days |
| 3-day takeover | 4.0–5.5× | $3,200–$4,400 | Same cap × 3 days |
| 5-day takeover | 5.5–7.5× | $4,400–$6,000 | Caps required in SOW |
| 7-day takeover | 7.0–9.0× | $5,600–$7,200 | Weekly plan + mid-week check |
| Extra Reel same day | +1.0× Reel | +$800 | Above daily cap |
Organic only. Paid usage / whitelist on any asset = separate % lines.
Worked quote: 3-day product drop
Inputs: Reel base $800, 3-day grid takeover at 4.5×, default caps (1 Reel + 1 carousel + 3 Story frames per day), organic only, no Collab invite, no whitelist. Brand asked for “the whole grid for the launch weekend” — you translate that into days + caps, not vibes.
| Line | Math | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| 3-day grid takeover | 4.5 × $800 | $3,600 |
| Included: up to 3 Reels / 3 carousels / 9 Story frames | Inside caps | Included |
| 4th Reel on day 2 | Not included | +$800 if added |
| Collab invite on hero Reel | Not included | See Collab rates |
| Paid usage 30 days on hero Reel | Not included | +% of that Reel |
| Total as scoped | — | $3,600 |
One revision round per asset. Mid-takeover brief rewrite = change order.
Opportunity cost matters: if you normally book two brand Reels that week at $800 each, a $3,600 takeover must beat that plus the Stories you would have sold. If the brand’s category exclusivity already blocks other deals, do not double-charge exclusivity inside the takeover — but do state that competing posts are forbidden during the window.
Planning the week without scope creep
Send a one-page posting plan with the quote: which day gets the hero Reel, which day gets the education carousel, and which Story frames carry the CTA. Brands that “figure it out as we go” will invent a fourth Reel on day two. The plan is not creative fluff — it is how you enforce the daily cap you already priced.
If performance on day one underwhelms, do not throw free extra posts to “make it work.” Offer a paid add-on Reel at full rate or a next-week package. Takeovers sell access to your grid; they do not sell a guaranteed impression floor unless you wrote one (and priced the risk).
What a grid takeover is not
- Not a single carousel purchase (slide-count pricing is the carousel guide).
- Not an Instagram Collab invite (dual-grid mechanic on one post).
- Not a 24-hour Stories-only takeover (Story-slot day rate without feed lock).
- Not unlimited revisions across the week for one fee.
Vs carousel SKU
One carousel is one asset. A takeover may include carousels — the product you sell is the days and the exclusivity of the grid.
Vs Collab
Collab shares one post to two profiles. Takeover fills your profile for days. Stack them only with two lines on the PO.
Kill / cancel
If they cancel after day 1 posts are live, keep a kill percentage on remaining days — do not refund the whole takeover.

Grid takeover rate questions
+What is an Instagram grid takeover for rate cards?
A dated window where your feed posts (and often Stories) are reserved for one brand — you are selling calendar exclusivity of the grid, not a single carousel. Cap posts per day in the SOW.
+How much is a 3-day vs 7-day grid takeover?
Use a day ladder from your Reel base: e.g. 1 day ~1.8–2.5× Reel, 3 days ~4–5.5×, 7 days ~7–9× with diminishing per-day cost — never 7× a single post fee with unlimited posts.
+Does a takeover include Reels and Stories every day?
Only what the SOW lists. Default a takeover to a max post count and format mix (e.g. 1 Reel + 1 carousel + 3 Story frames/day). Anything above is à la carte.
+Can I post my own content during a paid takeover window?
Usually no on feed — that is the product. If you need a personal exception, write it. Soft exclusivity that still allows your posts is not a takeover; re-quote as a package of posts.
+Is grid takeover the same as a Collab post invite?
No. Collab is dual-grid distribution on one asset. Takeover is multi-day control of your posting calendar. Brands that want both pay for both.
+How many revision rounds across a multi-day takeover?
One round per asset, not one round for the whole week. A mid-week concept change after day-1 posts is a new brief — kill fee or change-order, not free.
