Instagram shopping product tag rates
Figures and workflows here are illustrations, not financial, tax, or accounting advice. Talk to a tax or finance specialist in your jurisdiction before you invoice, set payment terms, or treat a number as a rate you should charge.
What a shopping tag actually sells
Instagram Shopping tags let viewers open product details from your feed post or Reel and continue checkout on the brand’s site — in-app checkout has largely phased out. Tags still need Shopping eligibility and catalog sync. That is different from a Story link sticker (short tap window) and different from a bio or Linktree slot (profile-level billboard). Brands often ask for “just add the tag” after the Reel is already priced. Treat that as a new SKU: you are renting residual commerce access on that asset for a defined number of days.
Price the content fee first. Then price tag days. Then, if they want paid usage or whitelisting, stack those lines. Collapsing “Reel + forever tag + ads” into one mushy number is how you undercharge for months.
Shopping tags also create operational work: product ID checks, region availability, and sometimes a re-tag if the brand swaps SKUs mid-flight. That ops load belongs in the fee. If they change the tagged product twice in fourteen days, charge a re-tag add-on (e.g. 20% of the tag line) or end the window and rebook. Do not treat catalog churn as included customer service.
Spine: tag days vs sticker vs bio
Use this comparison when a brand says “tag, sticker, or bio — whatever is easiest.” Easiest for them is not the same inventory. Defaults below scale from a $650 Reel; adjust ±20% with your niche conversion, not with vibes.
| SKU | Window | Vs $650 Reel | Example fee | Primary job |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Shopping product tag | 7 days on that post | ~15–22% | $95–$140 | In-post commerce |
| Shopping product tag | 14 days | ~25–35% | $160–$230 | Launch window |
| Shopping product tag | 30 days | ~35–50% | $228–$325 | Residual shoppers |
| Story link sticker | 24–48h frames | ~10–15% | $65–$100 | Short tap burst |
| Bio / Linktree top slot | 7 days profile CTA | ~18–25% | $120–$160 | All-traffic CTA |
| Bio / Linktree top slot | 30 days | ~40–55% | $260–$360 | Blocks your own CTA |
| Tag + bio same week | 7d + 7d | Sum of both | $215–$300 | Launch stack |
If Shopping is unavailable on your account, do not fake a tag SKU — sell bio days or stickers and say why.
Worked quote: 14-day tag on a drop Reel
Brand wants one organic Reel, one shopping tag for fourteen days, no paid ads as you, optional 8% affiliate on tagged SKUs. Inputs: $650 Reel base, 14-day tag mid-band $195, affiliate tracked separately.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Organic Reel (1 revision, no paid usage) | $650 |
| Shopping product tag — 14 days | $195 |
| Affiliate 8% on tagged SKUs | Upside only — not a discount |
| Paid usage / whitelist | Not included |
| Total due before post | $845 |
| Refuse line | No forever tag; remove day 15 |
If they later ask for 30 more tag days, quote a fresh 30-day line (~$228–$325), not a free extension. Where Meta offers creator affiliate product tags in 2026, commission is upside — not a substitute for the flat tag fee.
Cash before the post goes live. Affiliate dashboards are not invoices. If the brand stalls on catalog sync and the tag cannot go live by launch day, keep the Reel fee and rebook the tag window — do not eat the delay as “partnership goodwill.”
Affiliate floors and catalog friction
- Flat tag fee first; commission never zeros the rent on your post.
- Confirm Shopping eligibility and product IDs in writing before you shoot.
- Cap tagged SKUs (e.g. 1–3 products). A full catalog dump is a different brief.
- One revision on the Reel; tag placement notes are not a free second concept.
- Remove the tag within 24 hours of term end — calendar it.
Catalog friction is common: wrong SKUs, region locks, or the brand’s Shop not approved. Put a 48-hour fix window in the SOW after you deliver. If they miss it, the tag window starts when the tag actually goes live, or you cancel the tag line and keep a small readiness fee (e.g. 25% of the tag fee) for holding the slot.
What shopping tag pricing is not
Not bio days
Profile CTA blocks every visitor. Tags ride one asset. Different ladders — see the link-in-bio guide.
Not Story stickers
Stickers are short Story taps. Tags are feed/Reel commerce UI with multi-day windows.
Not paid usage
Running your Reel as their ad still needs a usage or whitelist line. Tags do not grant ads rights.
Keep this page for commerce tags. Story stickers and bio days have their own hubs — link those when brands conflate all three into “just put a link somewhere.” Your rate card should show three separate add-on rows so the DM never invents a free forever Shop tag.
Default refuse lines worth pasting: no unpaid tag after the Reel; no year-long Shop placement; no “we will tip you in affiliate” instead of the flat fee; no paid-usage rights implied by the tag. When the brand is ready, send the day ladder and the worked total — not a vibe discount.

Instagram shopping tag rate questions
+How much should an Instagram shopping product tag cost for 7 days?
Treat the tag as timed commerce inventory, not a free Reel bonus. On a $650 Reel base, a working band is ~$95–$140 for 7 tag days on that post; 30 days lands ~$228–$325 (~35–50% of base). Raise if the tag is the only CTA and your audience converts on the brand site.
+Is a product tag the same SKU as a Story link sticker?
No. Stickers are 24–48h tap destinations on Stories. Shopping tags sit on feed/Reels commerce UI and can stay for a contracted window. Price days separately; never swap one for the other without a re-quote.
+Do I still charge a flat fee if the brand also offers affiliate commission?
Yes. Commission is upside, not rent for your tagged surface. Quote flat tag days first, then stack affiliate if they insist — and refuse pure commission when your median views already cover a real fee.
+Can the brand keep the product tag live after the paid window?
Only if you renew. Day 31 without payment means remove the tag. Write “tag removed within 24 hours of term end” in the SOW so “we forgot” is not a business model.
+Shopping tag vs pin the product in comments — which fees apply?
Pinned comment links are a different add-on (often cheaper, less durable). Shopping tags use Instagram Shopping eligibility and brand catalog sync. If they cannot tag, sell bio days or a sticker — do not invent a fake Shopping SKU.
+How is this different from pricing link in bio?
Bio occupies your profile CTA for every visitor. A shopping tag rides one post’s commerce layer. Bio usually prices higher for the same day count; tags price off that post’s residual traffic. See the bio guide for the profile billboard ladder.
List shopping tags as their own add-on
BlueRateCard packages can separate organic Reels, bio days, stickers, and shopping tags so brands stop bundling commerce inventory into “included.” Free for creators; brands pay 5% capped at $100.
