Influencer usage rights pricing

Your post fee buys a post. Everything after that — ads, handle access, websites, a buyout — is a different product. Price it on a grid of permission × term so a brand cannot treat “usage included” as a blank cheque.

This page is not legal, tax, financial, or other professional advice. For a live deal, talk to a lawyer and a tax or finance specialist in your jurisdiction — BlueRateCard is not either.

Figures below are working ranges, not a market rate. Multiply against your own content fee.

Ad products — same word, different SKUs

Briefs say “boost” for everything. On this site these are separate lines. Meta’s UI label Allow brand partner to boost means Partnership Ads permission — not the Instagram Boost button.

SKU (say this)Who the ad looks likeWho spendsWhat you grant
Brand-account ads (paid usage / dark post)The brandTheir ad accountFile + licence (days, territory, spend) — no Partnership permission
Creator BoostYour organic post, boostedYour Meta ad account (they prepay media)You tap Boost; set budget + duration — never share your password
Partnership Ads / whitelistYou (usually with the brand in the header)Their Ads ManagerInstagram: partnership ad code or Allow brand partner to boost (= Partnership permission)
TikTok Spark AdsYour TikTok videoTheir TikTok Ads accountAd authorization code (7 / 30 / 60 / 365 days)

If they say “boost included,” ask who spends and who taps Boost — then pick one row.

The permission × term matrix

Four permissions, four clocks. Pick one cell per deal. If they want two permissions, add the two cells — do not average them. Percentages are of the content fee for that deliverable, not of your monthly income.

How to read a cell before you send it

A 90-day paid-social cell means the brand may run the asset as a paid ad from their accounts, in named territories, until day 90 after first impression. It does not include logging into your Instagram, Spark authorization, or using your face on a product box. If the brief says “full usage”, ask them to point at a cell. If they cannot, they do not know what they are buying — and you will be the one who eats the extra media.

Worked example: content fee $800. They want 90 days of paid social plus 30 days of whitelisting. Paid 90-day cell at 50% (within the +40–60% band) = $400. Whitelist 30-day cell at 50% (within +40–60%) = $400. Quote $1,600, not $800 “with usage”. Write both lines on the invoice so accounts payable cannot collapse them later.

Organic Reel (content fee)100%$800Post on your channels
Paid social 90d (their ad accounts)50%$400Named platforms + US
Whitelist / Partnership 30d50%$400Your handle + spend cap
Total—$1,600Three invoice lines

If they drop whitelist, total becomes $1,200 — paid usage stays. Exclusivity would be a fourth line, not a merge into usage.

Four rules that keep the matrix honest

Name the platforms

Meta only is not “paid social”. Brand-account ads ≠ Creator Boost ≠ Partnership Ads. TikTok Spark Ads is not a Meta Partnership Ad. If they add YouTube pre-roll later, that is a new cell, not a courtesy.

Name the territory

US-only 90 days is cheaper than worldwide. If they need UK and AU mid-campaign, sell an expansion, do not gift it because the files already exist.

Cap the ad spend or the term — pick one

Unlimited spend for 30 days can cost you more than a 12-month licence with a $5,000 cap. If they will not cap spend, shorten the term or raise the cell.

Buyouts are not 200% of a Reel

Perpetual, worldwide, all-media, including likeness, is a different product. Quote from the out-of-home row or decline. A doubled post fee is not a buyout.

What to put on the rate card itself

Do not paste this whole grid into a PDF. Put three toggles brands actually buy: organic included, paid social 90 days, whitelist 30 days. Everything else is “quote on brief”. That is enough to stop the DM that says “usage is included, right?”.

If you still send a static kit, add one sentence under the prices: “Content fee covers posting on my channels only. Paid ads, handle access, and buyouts are separate cells.” Then link to this page or to your live card. Creators who hide rights inside the package train brands to expect them for free.

Exclusivity is not a usage cell. It is a lock on who else you can work with. Price it on its own line or you will sell a 60-day category freeze as if it were a 30-day ad licence. Keep the two products apart even when the same brand buys both.

Worked expansion: US paid → add UK mid-term

Content fee $800. They already bought paid social 90d US at 50% ($400). On day 40 they want UK too for the remaining ~50 days.

LineMathAmount
Original: Reel + paid 90d US$800 + $400$1,200 paid already
Expansion: UK add-on (remaining term)~20% of content fee+$160
Or: re-quote multi-territory remainderNegotiate vs full multi-country cellDo not gift
Total if they take +$160—$1,360 deal value

No UK ads until the expansion line clears. Same rule for email / site / packaging — new permission, new line.

DM paste when they say “usage included”

  • “Content fee = organic on my channels only. Paid ads from your accounts are +___% for ___ days. Whitelist / Partnership from my handle is a separate line.”
  • “Point at the cell you need (paid / whitelist / site / buyout). ‘Full usage’ is not a cell.”
  • “Clock starts on first paid impression or first organic repost — whichever is first.”

Usage rights & licensing

Usage-rights pricing questions

+How do I calculate a usage-rights add-on from my content fee?

Start with the content fee as 100%. Organic-only stays at 100%. Paid social from the brand’s accounts typically adds +25–40% for 30 days or +40–60% for 90 days. Whitelisting from your handle adds +40–60% for 30 days (see the matrix). A buyout is a new quote, not a percentage of a Reel.

+Does a brand screenshot of my Reel count as paid usage?

A screenshot in an internal deck is usually covered by organic. Putting that still into a paid ad, a landing page, packaging, or an email sequence is a new permission. Write those four uses as separate cells so a screenshot cannot expand into a campaign.

+Should I charge a percentage or a flat usage fee?

Percentages scale when your content fee rises. Flat fees are clearer for one-off stills and UGC files. Use % on posted collabs and a flat licence on files the brand will recut. Never mix both on the same line — accounts payable will pick the cheaper reading.

+When does the licence clock start?

On the first paid impression or the first organic repost, whichever happens first — not on the day you deliver files. If they sit on the asset for two months, you should not lose two months of the term. Put the start trigger in the quote.

+Can I sell organic and paid rights to two different brands?

Only if exclusivity is not in force. Organic rights for Brand A and paid rights for Brand B on the same asset is messy; sell distinct assets. If Brand A bought exclusivity, paid rights for a competitor are off the table until that window ends.

+How much is 90-day paid usage on a $600 Reel?

Use the paid-social 90-day cell (~40–60%): about $240–$360 on top of the $600. Whitelist is a different line. Do not round both into “+$100 usage”.

+How do I price a mid-deal territory expansion (US → US+UK)?

Do not gift it. A clean default is +15–25% of the content fee for the remaining paid term (or re-quote the multi-territory cell minus time already used). Put the expansion on its own invoice line before they launch UK ads.

Put the matrix on a live rate card

BlueRateCard lets brands toggle ad rights and exclusivity on the package they already picked. The price updates before they pay. Funds are held on the platform until you deliver. Free for creators; brands pay 5% per deal, capped at $100.
